Preparing for Procedure

Prior to any surgery you are thoroughly investigated to determine the nature of your condition, the necessity for surgery and the most ideal procedure for you. In addition, you may have to undergo basic imaging and blood tests to identify any abnormalities that might affect surgery or recovery, and to as certain if you are fit to receive anaesthesia.

Your doctor will determine if you require an open or laparoscopic procedure depending on your situation and explain in detail what the surgery entails, its necessity, the risks involved, postoperative care and what to expect following the procedure. You are encouraged to ask questions and clear any doubts before signing a written consent to proceed.

A few weeks prior to surgery you are instructed to stop smoking and to inform your doctor about any medications you are taking which may need to be stopped or altered to avoid complications such as bleeding. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions for the day of your surgery.
